Society
In the Netherlands, NeVLAT, the society for dutch teachers in the Alexander Technique was established in 1994. Momentarily, NeVLAT consists of more or less 70 members, of whom 50 are teaching spread out throughout the Netherlands and 20 are students at a training course.
The society takes care of:
- quality control and refresher courses
- promoting research and development of the technique
- supporting teachers by the practice of their profession
The NeVLAT is a sister society of the STAT. STAT was established in 1958, is internationally representative and exists of more than 1200 members spread out through the world. As beiing the earliest and biggest society, STAT has still a big role in supervising training courses and supporting the establishing of new societies.
Other sister societies can be found in Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Germany, France, Israel, North America, Spain, South Africa and Switzerland. The members of all sister societies are teachers that have fulfilled certain requirements and completed a three year training course that is recognized by STAT or with an affiliated society. The International societies are joint in the Affiliated Societies of the Alexander Technique (ATAS).
The membership of the sister societies is interchangeable. Once graduated (at a NeVLAT recognized training course) you can become a member of the NeVLAT or one of the sister societies in the country where you are going to live.
