The Alexander Technique Training Course

The Alexander Technique Training Course of The Netherlands (ATON) was established in Amsterdam, 1987, and approved of by the english society. Meanwhile the school has relocated to a peaceful environment in Amstelveen, bordering Amsterdam, and has been under the supervision of the dutch society (NeVLAT) sice the spring of 2003.

It was a conscious decision to combine a small group of maximum twelve first, second and third year students together to allow for sufficient personal attention. In total there are two to three teachers present per day. Our teaching team consists of four leading teachers, one or two of which are present daily. In addition we have a group of teachers who are just graduated or with more experience working alternately. We regularly invite guest teachers from The Netherlands and abroad who specialize in a specificarea of the Alexander Technique, most commonly relating to his or her profession (ex. voice, anatomy, music, theatre, swimming, running, acrobatics, etc.).

The advantage to working with different teachers allows students the possibility to become familiar with the technique from different perspectives. A strong point of the Alexander Technique is aimed towards experiencing the depth of the technique allowing graduates to continue to explore and develop themselves in a wide variety of fields.

Through the work practiced during the education in combination with each individual learning process of the teachers, we discover more and more about the basic principles of the Alexander Technique. The teachers exchange their experiences with each other and the students so that everyone discovers more about what the alexander technmique has to offer and the wide spectrum of possibilities it can be used for. This process allows the lessons to more intensely develop.

During the three year training course, students may experience serious physical, mental, emotional and spiritual changes. Dealing with these transformations requires extra security and support. All the teachers are always prepared to answer any questions or offer any extra support or understanding whenever necessary.

Assessment

The training course complies with the requirements established by the laws and house rules of the Netherlands society of teachers in the Alexander Technique (NeVLAT).

The supervision of the quality of the training courses in the Netherlands has been done by the dutch society, NeVLAT, since spring 2003. Previous to NeVLAT it was done by the STAT.
