Structure and contents

The training course is a three year course consisting of 35 lesson weeks. Class is five mornings a week from 9.00 am to 12.30 pm or 1.00 pm.

  • In the first year the student learns to think and function according to the Alexander Technique principles, in other words, one is taught how to use the technique for oneself in preparation for working on others.
  • In the second year one learns refinement of ones own development as well as manual proficiency in physical procedures.
  • In the third year this all leads to independant work on colleagues and eventuallly outsiders.

The training course consists of 80% practical Alexander work. The most prevailing lesson program is as follows:

  • An individual turn: lesson of 15 or 30 minutes
  • Games: movements that are often given in a series with a constructive character
  • Hands on: learn to give lessons using one's hands
  • Reading of the books of F.M. Alexander and related articles
  • Self-activity and in a later stadium working on others

This steady daily program aimed towards the basis skills of the technique is supplemented, among other things, with the following three topics:

  • anatomy and physiology according to the Alexander Technique
  • voice work
  • starting and organizing ones own practice

For this guest teachers form the Netherlands and abroad are regularly invited per trimester.

Moderation

In average two times a year we have a moderator visiting the school. This is a teacher outside the school who has many years of teaching experience. Presently the school makes use of an experianced teacher from the moderating panel of the english society, the STAT: Jean Clark (more then 30 years of teaching experience). She visits during the students sixth and ninth trimesters to help give a more independent insight towards their own development in the technique and as a future teacher. For the main teachers this is also an opportunity to get some feedback on the quality of the training course.

Further training for graduate teachers

Monthly, we have a refreshers course at the school for all the teachers taught at this training course. The teachers from the training course also meet monthly to exchange and broaden the practice of hands on lessons.

Costs

The training course costs € 7200,- per year. This may be paid per trimester at a rate of € 2400,- per trimester. The costs can be raised proportionally to the inflation rates.
