What does the Alexandertechniek do?

Students who are busy with the Alexander Technique for a while tend to appear to others as if they've grown. In fact, they haven't! This visual illusion is due to the fact that muscles are not being held in a shortened or contracted state which in turn allows space for lengthening and widening. The technique teaches one to stop unneccessary contracting of the musculature. As a student, one learns to "think" in one's body and become aware of the consequenses this thinking has on one's reactions and the use of the musculature.

As far as complaints or problems are concerned, the Alexander Technique works with the coordination of balance and movement; in other words, movement as a whole. The causes of problems will be dealt with in an indirect manner by learning to overcome inefficient use of the body.

This website provides you with information about Alexander Technique lessons and the teacher training course.
